Yukari was born in Ibara, in Japan’s Okayama region, an ancient center of ceramic traditions. She settled in New Brunswick, Canada, in 1995, where she studied applied arts in Fredericton and chose ceramics as her path. Rooted in the heritage of her birthplace and shaped by her Canadian experience, her work carries both cultures.
Yukari is known for her mastery of overglaze painting, a demanding technique that requires a third firing at low temperature. She applies delicate brushstrokes onto already fired pieces, creating surfaces that reveal both precision and poetry. Each teapot, bowl, or cup becomes a canvas, bridging Japanese tradition with a contemporary sensibility.
