Jacques Benoit is known for glazes he creates using clay he collects along the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Kamouraska, in Quebec’s Bas-Saint-Laurent region.
He learned the craft of pottery in Cap-Rouge in 1971 as an apprentice to Eugène Schneeberger, a Swiss master potter and instructor at the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec.
Jacques works from his intimate studio in his native Plateau-Mont-Royal, where he experiments with new materials and forms. Today, he passes on his knowledge to students, using the studio as an incubator for research and creation.
