Origins, Process and Materials
Origins

Handmade in Montréal, Canada

Canadian earthenware

Ingredients for engobe (liquid colored clay) decoration and glazes were sourced from Canadian and US manufacturers

Process

Marie threw the Boitakoi as a single closed form on the potter’s wheel

After drying to leather-hard, she put it back on the wheel for trimming. At this stage, the closed shape was carefully cut to separate the lid from the body, ensuring a perfect fit

Marie decorated the Boitakoi with engobe (liquid colored clay) and carved it with a unique drawing (no two items are alike)

The piece was then dried again and bisque fired in the electric kiln

Finally, she dipped the Boitakoi in a clear glossy glaze before firing it a second time at one of the highest temperatures possible for earthenware, 1,060⁰C (1,940⁰F), for added strength

Each Boitakoi has its own subtly distinct form and a hand-shaped bead pull, making each piece one of a kind
